Here is the too-early-to-tell, too-early-to-call, but we felt like it (so we did) ... how far fetched are these views of the SEC East and SEC West? This early in the summer anything can happen because the last time we checked, no one has played their first game.
To stave off the inevitable jerk from that particular Dawg blog, get over yourself brother ... while this is not tongue in cheek, honestly we believe this could potentially happen.
SEC West
1. LSU Tigers: Must find run and pass blocking. Several key offensive specialty positions must step up. There is a very thin line for this team between being ten game winners or eight game winners. We believe the Tigers can pull a couple of key upsets and surprise some folks this season.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide: Lost tons of key players, but still return a solid running attack. Played above their heads last season on a Cinderella run. Defense will be solid, but will have areas that can be exploited.
3. Auburn Tigers: AU, like LSU, has a very thin margin for error. If the team can play to their potential, then SEC West third is not out of the question ... if not? SEC West fifth is not out of the question.
4. Arkansas Razorbacks: Ryan Mallet had better pray he does not get injured. Solid offense again this season that will have to play like a video game because the defense is not very good (again).
5. Mississippi State Bulldogs: Dan Mullen and his staff have this team headed in the correct direction.
6. Ole Miss Rebels: Houston Nutt has too many players to replace, but has shown the ability to win when no one is looking.
SEC East
1. Florida Gators: Go ahead, start the homer-chants. Honestly, who else is there to pick in the East? Nearly every SEC East team is either rebuilding at key positions or has new coaching staffs.
2. Kentucky Wildcats: Holy Shit! Really? No f'n way you say? Can the "Player's Coach" Joker Phillips take the Rich Brooks team and turn the corner? If the Wildcats can find effective offensive line and quarterback play, yes they can. Look for the Wildcats' defense to be better than expected.
3. Tennessee Vols: UT fans need to get out of the 'woe is me' attitude. The brash young idiot that was The Lane Train has moved to the West Coast ... in his place is Derek Dooley. While many people want to automatically compare the son of legendary UGA Coach to his father, not so fast. The Vols are thin at several key positions, but with coaching up ... this team could be bowl eligible.
4. Georgia Bulldogs: Could this be Mark Richt's last season in Athens? If he does not win more than seven games, yes we believe it could be. Last season we were lambasted by a particular UGA blogger that will remain nameless ... and lo-and-behold, Mark Richt has been listed on nearly every coaches hot seat from here to Timbuk-Two ... go figure. Tons of holes exist on this team. Fourth in the West is more of a default position rather than team potential.
5. South Carolina Gamecocks: At the end of last season, honestly, I thought that this could be SC's year ... looking at the schedule ... there is NO WAY.
6. Vanderbilt Commodores: Another dismal season for the Commies ...
Once again, to repeat for the slow learners, today is JUNE NINTH ... a lot can (and most likely will) change between now and September ... these are projections based on the schedules and how well (or not so well) we believe these teams will match up to their opponents.
We have already sat down and mapped out each team's individual seasons ... while some state "you can not pick these things" ... we did the same thing last season in JULY and almost nailed the majority of the season ...
