Heisman PoseAlright, go ahead and bring the heat ... the season is still too early to call ... and we are not jumping on the Kellen Moore bandwagon just because Boise State squeaked by Virginia Tech.

With that said, many will likely disagree with our Top Three Heisman candidates and that is fine.

Like I said, the season is still young.  After going out on a limb in week one, we are slowing down a bit.  Not to see which direction the wind blows mind you because if you know anything about me, popular opinion is the last thing that I care about.

Our pre-season ballot was more like a wish list than anything with our Top Five including:

Case Keenum, QB, Sr., Houston,  Jake Locker, QB, Sr., Washington, Ryan Mallett, QB, Jr., Arkansas, Mark Ingram, RB, Jr., Alabama, Dion Lewis, RB, So., Pittsburgh.

After being stopped dead in their tracks defeated in week one, anyone will be hard pressed to push for Jake Locker and Dion Lewis for the trophy and Mark Ingram's injury is unfortunate.

Who do we have in Week Two's ballot?  Truthfully, it is more of a wide open race than the MSM wants to push.  At this point, I would vote for the fine lady in the photo if I could.  It is still too early. Case Keenum, QB, Houston:  He is Joe Montana in the late 1980's Tecmo Bowl video game.  Even when his team loses he should throw for half a million yards.  A product of the system?  Yes, he is, but who isn't?  By the end of the year, barring major injury, let's compare his stats to any quarterback in the nation.  Stats don't make the best college football?  What does then?  Clothes?

Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas:  Mallet is perhaps the best skilled pro-style quarterback in the nation.  Will he lose some games?  His defense sure will.  Will it be his fault?  Most likely not.  The largest test of the season for the Razorbacks occurs on September 25th when Arkansas plays host to the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.  Can Mallet overcome last season's debacle that exposed him?

Greg McElroy, QB Alabama:  Everyone always wants to give the trophy to the best player on the best team in the nation.  So there you go.  McElroy is no slouch and he did not just fall off of the turnip truck either.

Curiously missing from our ballot?

Like I said, I am not jumping on Kellen Moore's bandwagon, feel free to take my seat.

I saw enough in the Virginia Tech game to convince me that Frank Beamer was out coached.

Sure, Moore had to play the game and engineered the drives when the team needed it the most.  On the other hand, if you want to give the award to the best player on the Boise State team, then you need to nominate Chris Peterson.

I am also not jumping on Terrelle Pryor's bandwagon.  If Pryor is the be all/end all that is Ohio State football, we will see this weekend.

If Pryor plays like a true champion then I will bow my neck, admit being wrong and include him in next week's poll ... but honestly, he is going to have to show me first because I can name five quarterbacks that are better.

Pryor is an outstanding athlete, yes ... best quarterback?  Not by a long shot.

Largest Struggle of the Week

Not including Denard Robinson and Kendall Hunter in the ballot ... like Pryor, I want to see what he does against real competition.
