Sharrif Floyd, Matt Elam Will be Florida Gators, Meyer's Class Coming Together?

Urban Meyer's sudden announcement preceding the Sugar Bowl was supposed to wreck the Gator's recruiting class.  Someone apparently forgot to tell Pennsylvania native Sharrif Floyd.

Floyd, playing in today's US Army All American Bowl, announced his collegiate choice at half time of today's game.  The 6'3", 310-pound defensive tackle has played this game as a man among boys.  Almost unblockable, Floyd has dominated the line of scrimmage and I for one will be shocked if he does not receive the Defensive Player of the Game.

If a player of Floyd's stature is not afraid to bail on the Gators, why are the in-state players bolting on the Gators?  While negative recruiting will take a toll on Meyer's staff, apparently the damage will not be as bad as many UF fans originially feared.

Never underestimate the power of an All Star game.  These players have been together for a week and have had the opportunity to discuss where each player wanted to play.  It is no secret that the elite players want to play together.  For example, when Brandon Spikes was asked several years ago where he would be attending college ... reportedly, Spikes pointed at Tim Tebow and said "I am going where he is".

Matt Elam was another player that had waffled on his decision following the Meyer announcement.  Elam had been reported to be switching to Florida State ... he has yet to make his decision, but I will not have to change the title of this article.

Elam will be a Gator ... mark that one down.

Will Meyer be on the UF sidelines next season?  Who knows, but one thing is for sure:  the house that Meyer has built will still have stuff on the pantry shelves should he decide to step away.

UF also received a commitment from Ronald Powell
Florida will have the hands down #1 class this year

Florida is cleaning house lol, i'm a North Carolina fan and glad we don't play them hehe. I do keep up with recruiting second to only the guys getting payed for it. I will say this, your article is extremely anti Gator. Florida is getting WHOEVER they want at nearly all positions. Florida has alot of talent, 15 of Florida's 24 are from Florida. I think they might pick up S. Henderson still and/or Chaz Green. The Gators only have so much room to fill, and they have been hand picking Cali guys, New York guys, Philly guys etc. Florida has the upper hand here, they are able to say yes or no. Alot of the Florida guys aren't high four star or five star guys. Literally the only guy they don't have that they wanted was Jeff Luc and really with the guys they do have, they won't miss him. FSU is going to have a top 15 class too, a big haul for the Noles. This is huge for the Gators because alot of people who hate wanna say they will never be back. LOL. Florida would have taken Powell with or without Carroll at USC. With possible NCAA violations at Bama, USC and Tenn this isn't going to change. Florida has more money then anyone outside of maybe Notre Dame and the last 20 years have been impressive for the Gators. Florida is the place to be and they are getting the best talent from the entire nation, 9 of 24 are from other states!!!
Thanks Jessica!

While I have never had anyone tell me about an anti-Gator slant (you hear that Basillio?), I def appreciate the comments.

I agree that UF is cherry picking their recruits right now, BUT ... and this is a big 'but' ... once recruiting goes full bore again (leaving the limited contact period), you are going to see most SEC schools camping out in these recruits front yards. While it does happen every year, the other rival schools have not had the ammo they have to go against Meyer.

Never underestimate the power of negative recruiting.
