UK chose to overlook the rumors and questionable past of UK Basketball Coach John Calipari ... in order to "win". Can UK overlook Coach Cal's 'present' and 'future' in the name of "winning"?
This article is brought to you by our new partners at Talkin SEC ... just like us, Talkin SEC offers the opinion that many people quietly think, but few have the nads to actually express.
If you want the run-of-the-mill drivel that you can read in any newspaper, then go there ... and please, stay there .... but if you are looking for the opinions of real SEC fans, who actually attend the games, then check us both out.
You would think everyone would be excited to have five NBA level players on one team, but after finishing the year short of a title and a Final Four, you have wonder if it's worth it. All 5 kids will likely leave UK and turn pro. Most of them leave with lingering questions about their educational background and dedication to UK.
Look, we all know that Coach Calipari utilizes the 'one-and-done' player more than any other coach in the nation. That is how he builds his programs. At the same time, even if you are a dyed-in-the-wool Big Blue fan ... take a step back and seriously look at this guy's past ... and the questions that swirl around him. You can rant and rave all you want, call us haters or what ever, but rest assured when this bird comes home to roost in four years or so ... we will be here to tell you that "we told you so". This isn't rocket science. It is the premiere utilization of the grey areas of recruiting ... which is legal.
Aren't these kids the 'real' reason UK wanted Coach Cal? Blue Chips who could put the 'Wild' back in Wildcat basketball? What happens if Cal can't replace this unreal talent? Will they [UK] finally take a moment to look at his past? Add to Cal's list Asst. Coach Rod Strickland's DUI (his 4th) and I'm not sure the UK/Calipari future is as bright as it could be.
