Every generation experiences one of those moments that they all will remember vividly for the rest of their lives.
On several occasions over the past 10 years, I have told my story of walking into my University 101 class at USC, and hearing the news that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, and an hour later as I walked down Greene Street in Columbia, SC, the campus was in total chaos. Today, that memory will begin to fade for many people in Columbia, and the vivid memory of where they were on February 14, 2011 will take its place.
Granted, and do not mistake this fact, I am in no way comparing that tragic event with today's monumental signing of the best defensive lineman in the nation ... the two are incomparable ...
While the scene on Clemson’s campus probably resembles that devastating day in September of 2001, the students at the University of South Carolina are experiencing a much more delightful form of chaos, as Jadeveon Clowney has finally announced he will be a Gamecock in the fall.
The 6’6” 250lb DE out of South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, SC was a man of few words this morning, but to Gamecocks everywhere, he said all the right ones.
no commentsI was trying my best to not catch "Clowney Fever", a documented viral epidemic that has been taking down the NCAA media, one writer at a time. This is partly because I don't like to circulate hearsay (unless it is really really funny), but mostly because I know Jadeveon has grown weary of the whole process and media circus that goes with it ... and I have a very good feeling I will be working next to him
for the next couple of years ... so I have no desire to make his life more difficult than it already has been.
However, I do have an anonymous "man in the know", who is very close to Jadeveon, and today he passed along some great information.

Earlier this afternoon, Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks received a signed letter of intent from a "scary fast" receiver.
This was not a surprise, as Damiere Byrd, the WR out of Timber Creek H.S. in Sicklerville, NJ gave his verbal commitment to South Carolina back in October, but did not fax his NLI to USC on signing day.
Why? Because he was on a plane to Japan. Byrd, a 5'8" 155lbs (think Brandon James) speedster was the 5th ranked WR in the state of NJ, and 20th in the country on rivals.com.

After two games have been played, South Carolina has looked impressive ... very impressive. Did I miss my SEC East prediction with the Gamecocks? Does this team have what it takes to win the SEC East?
Coming into the season, we all knew that the only ingredients this Gamecock team was missing were: a running game and an offensive line that could hold their blocks.
Have the Gamecocks found both? Moving forward with the season, what should the expectations of South Carolina fans be?
Like many, of course we are thankful to see the season finally arrive. Too bad we have to muddle through week one's cup cake and creme schedule. Honestly, other than a couple of games, is anyone really looking forward to this weekend? At any rate, football on television IS football on television .
Right out of the gate is Southern Miss at South Carolina.
The Gamecocks are currently favored by 14 points and the over/under is 45 points. Look for this game to be closer than expected, especially early on. no comments
